FuelEU
FuelEU is designed to limit the Greenhouse gas intensity of vessels. Similar to EU-ETS, it applies to vessels of 5000 gross tonnage or above.
Target GHG Intensity
FuelEU Article 4 specifies the reference GHG intensity value of 91.16 grams of CO₂ per MJ as well as the year-over-year reduction in GHG target intensity.
| Year | GHG target |
|---|---|
| 2025 | 89.3368 g CO₂/MJ |
| 2030 | 85.6904 g CO₂/MJ |
| 2035 | 77.9418 g CO₂/MJ |
| 2040 | 62.9004 g CO₂/MJ |
| 2045 | 34.6408 g CO₂/MJ |
| 2050 | 18.2320 g CO₂/MJ |
If the average GHG intensity of your ship is greater than this target intensity, you have to pay a penalty.
What You Get
Emission+ automatically calculates the energy in scope of FuelEU regulation, the corresponding GHG Intensity, the resulting Compliance Balance and if applicable the appropriate Penalty.
Specifically, we automatically compute the formulas in FuelEU ANNEX I for you.
The Emission+ calculations include special cases for biofuels, ice class and ice voyages, voyage classification for non-EU voyages, 50% voyages, including special cases for outermost regions and transshipment ports, as well as the resulting fuel redistribution optimizations.
